Sundays At 2

Did you know that the opossum is the only marsupial living north of Mexico, or that they have 50 teeth? You could have learned these animal facts and much more at wildlife expert/nature photographer/author Dell Cullum of Hampton Wildlife Removal and Rescue’s talk on Mother’s Day at the Long Pond Greenbelt Nature Center in Bridgehampton.

The fascinating lecture and slide show was part of the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt’s free “Sundays at 2” series, a project spearheaded by FLPG’s Dai and Jean Dayton and Sandy Ferguson. Attendees were encouraged by Dell to learn to live with our native animals like the Flying Squirrel, the Virginia Opossum, and the ubiquitous and misunderstood raccoon, and not to try to exterminate them. Familiarizing ourselves with their habits and needs is the first step in successfully coexisting on our East End.
