Third and fourth-graders from Montauk School joined Jessica James and other members of the Third House Nature Center for the first release of bobwhite quail this season at Theodore Roosevelt County Park on May 23.
The school’s science lab helped the nature center hatch and raise the quail earlier this spring. This marks the second year of the program, which seeks to restore the quail to Montauk. Some of the birds released last year have been sighted on the hamlet’s trails this year, indicating that the program is having some success.
