Crossing of Madison and Main. Sag Harbor.
Corner of Madison and Main Street in Sag Harbor

The John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor presents the opening of the Kenny Mann papers, a recent acquisition to the Local History Room and Special Collections. On Saturday, November 9, from 12:30 to 2 PM, there will be a discussion with Mann in the first of its “Afternoon at the Archives” series.

A discussion will take place with Mann about her papers, how she became involved in the Sag Harbor of the ’80s and ’90s, and what she is up to now. The event features rarely seen photographs and video, as well as audio broadcasts, allowing viewers to see into her social and artistic community engagement over the past 32 years.

As a longtime Sag Harbor filmmaker, journalist, children’s author, playwright, educator, and activist, Mann’s work ranges from a film about her childhood growing up in Kenya, to participation in local Sag Harbor initiatives like Art ‘Round Town (A.R.T.), to her most recent venture of writing and directing “Naisula,” an epic poem about a white woman and her African servant that was staged at the John Drew Theater of Guild Hall in 2017. Mann has written for and appeared in many publications, including the New York Times and Newsday. Her films have premiered locally at the Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival and have been screened at many film festivals, both in the U.S. and abroad.
